symptoms may not be apparent to family members as some new mothers battle with it
alone afraid to reveal that anything is wrong. After all what could be wrong? you have a
beautiful new baby.
As a new mother you may feel:
Are you having morbid thoughts (about people dying or yourself)?

Are you pacing the room?
Are you holding on to your baby all the time?

are very distressing.

Working with a coach can help you to understand what caused you to to feel this way
it may be the trauma of the birth, it could be your circumstances at home or in your
relationship with your husband/partner. Sometimes mothers do not feel that they should
be mothers and are afraid they won't be good mothers.
When a woman has had a long and successful career before baby she can feel a loss
or feel out of her depth. There are many underlying reasons for this condition and we
can get to the bottom of it.The most important thing to do is to develop a strategy for
dealing with all aspects of becoming a new mum and getting you back on top and in control
again.
We will review:
Your life before Baby.
Your values and beliefs about parenthood.
The pregnancy and how it went.
The birth and any trauma or complications.
The onset of symptoms.
Your stay and care in hospital
Things said that may have triggered the depression.
We will also be looking at whether you have other children and what help you have at
home from family and friends as support is so important during this time.
Once we have established the symptoms and the possible cause or onset we can then
go on to work out a strategy or coping mechanism to get you through the initial period
which may or may not involve others as it is often important to have help at home to begin
with. The aim would be to get you coping without feeling overwhelmed, eating properly and
getting some sleep. Over time you will learn to manage easily be more relaxed and in control.
Keep in mind that post natal depression is only a temporary setback and can be
dealt with quickly and effectively.
Don't suffer in silence the sooner you get help the better.
